MINERALOGICAL AND GEOCHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF DRILL CUTTINGS AND THEIR IMPACT ON THE ENVIRONMENT

Annotation. The article considers the problem of pollution of the environment components by drilling wastes, which include drill cuttings. Drill cuttings are crushed drilled rock the particles of which are in the suspension of the drilling mud. The impact of these cuttings on the natural environment and human health is due to the content of toxic pollutants (heavy metals, oil products, radionuclides, and salts) in them. Modern ways of handling drilling waste do not always take into account the degree of toxicity of drill cuttings, so they pose a threat mainly to aquifers and soil biota during well drilling, which leads to disturbance of ecological balance in ecosystems. The negative impact on ecosystems is due to the high migration ability of pollutants in the composition of drill cuttings. In order to minimize environmental pollution it is proposed to use integrated methods of drill cuttings utilization and processing by involving them into production cycles for obtaining construction and other materials.
