APPLICATIONS OF NANOTECHNOLOGIES
Annotation. Active intervention of "science" in the creation and use of materials, devices and technical systems whose functioning is determined by their nanostructural features stimulates our desire to understand more deeply the meaning of fashionable today terms with prefixes "techno" and "nano", due to the fact that, recently, there have been too many authors of scientific publications, very peculiarly interpreting these concepts, as shown in our previously published works. In those works, we noted the contradictory and unsubstantiated nature of such claims and the fact that the fantasies of "enthusiasts" of the development of "nanotechnology" go too far. For example, they claim that the fields of scientific and industrial activity, in which "nanotechnologies" can (and will!) be applied, are limitless, and the appearance of "nanotechnologies" is seen as the beginning of a new era of the Scientific-Technological Revolution, which will greatly change the world already in the XXI century. Consequently, and this is considered quite obvious, the development of "nanotechnologies" will lead us: to improvement of evolutionary interaction of nature and society on the basis of satisfaction of vital needs of man; to solution of problems of research and synthesis of new substances, energy, biosphere, rational nature management, renewable energy, that is, to "work" in the direction of development of "technosphere". However, in our opinion, uncritical perception of modern concepts of "nanotechnology" may lead us in the opposite direction - to scientific and technological dead ends. In this connection, we believe that it is necessary to analyze clearly and consistently the main areas of possible application of "nanotechnologies," to establish the boundaries and possibilities of their positive influence on scientific and technological progress. Establishment of clear boundaries will reveal significant differences between the spheres of application of "nanotechnology" and the prospects of their development.
